Cross-References

Sri Jayewardenepura General Hospital Board Act, No. 54 of 1983

The SJGH Board Act follows a similar governance pattern — a ministerially-appointed board managing a specific hospital as a body corporate. Key differences: SJGH has 11 members (vs. 7 for VK Memorial); SJGH Board is fully Minister-appointed (vs. Foundation-nominated majority for VK Memorial); SJGH has no Foundation involvement.

VK Memorial Foundation (Incorporation) Act, No. 31 of 1998

The Foundation is the predecessor entity. It nominates the Hospital Board's Chairman and 4 members, giving it effective control. The Foundation's own Board includes the President, Leader of the Opposition, Chief Justice, and Auditor-General — far more senior than the Hospital Board's composition.

Finance Act, No. 38 of 1971

The hospital board's financial and audit provisions operate under the framework of this Act. Annual reports cite Section 14(2)(C) for auditing requirements.

National Audit Act, No. 19 of 2018

Recent audits are conducted under this Act, which supersedes older auditing frameworks. Available audit reports: 2023, 2022, 2019.
